The Good Boy Gazette | JULY 2023

Updated: Sep 22, 2023

Summer on Whidbey Island can be such a glorious time of year. Beautiful sunshine, blooming flowers, fresh grown veggies and berries from the garden, enjoying time by and in the water…

It also means lots and lots of watering to keep all of our plants alive! While it’s been beautiful, it’s been an exceptionally dry summer, which our trees tend to not prefer.

PSCTA Summer Meeting

Last year, Good Boy Farms officially became members of the Puget Sound Christmas Tree Association. This allows us to network with and learn from other Christmas tree growers in Washington who have been at it for much longer than we have. Dave, Chris and Josh had the opportunity to visit Lochsloy Acres during the most recent summer meeting of the PSCTA in June. They came back encouraged and energized with new ideas and strategies to put into practice for tree shearing this year and for planting season next year. We’re grateful to be a part of a community of other Christmas tree growers with the common goal of keeping small farms like ours around to bring Christmas joy to our towns for many years to come.

Summer Projects

Around here, we’ve got Christmas on the brain all year round. This year, some of our projects include sewing stockings, drying flowers, making jam from our garden fresh berries and already prepping bows for Christmas wreaths! We are also currently working on designing the 2023 annual ornament and some new Good Boy Farms apparel for the shop this year. Stay tuned for some new items to debut in November. Opening day is Friday, November 24.

Next up on our annual to-do list is shearing the Christmas trees to achieve that classic, full-bodied shape. Chris and Josh will be busy over the next few months starting in on the Nobles and Grand Firs.

Don’t forget to follow us on social media for more frequent updates and to come along with us as we prep for open season. We know that some were disappointed that we had to close so early in December last year. We’re working hard to prepare, and this year we’re hoping stay open much longer by doubling our pre-cut tree inventory.

Growing Families

Things have been a little extra busy around the farm because our Good Boy Farms family is has been growing. Chris and Nicole welcomed their second child, a daughter, in January. Josh and Kristi are expecting baby #3 in September. It’s exciting to fill the farm with more GBF grand babies!

Enjoy the rest of this beautiful summer. Look out for the next edition of the Good Boy Gazette in October. Thank you for your support!

Your friends at Good Boy Farms, Dave, Janet, Chris, Nicole, Josh & Kristi
