The Good Boy Gazette | OCT 2022

TREE TRIMMING Over the course of the spring and summer, our trees have been bursting with new growth. In order for trees to continue to grow full and bushy rather than thin and lanky, and to lend that classic, picturesque Christmas tree look, we have to get our trees sheared each year. Tree shearers use long sharp blades and gracefully slice off trailing branches as they move around the tree. We can attest from our personal experience that it is MUCH harder than it looks!

PREPPING FOR CHRISTMAS Black Friday is right around the corner. This time of year goes by so quickly for us with all there is to do in preparing the farm for opening day! We gave the merchandise shop a facelift in the form of a new coat of white paint inside, and we made needed repairs to some light posts and the baler booth. We’re excited to be preparing some new merchandise to the shop this year! We will be bringing back the popular hand-painted wood rounds from last year. Personalized ornaments will be available on opening weekend. New items this year include hand-embroidered ornaments, handmade bead garlands, wood round trivets/centerpieces, and candle holders made from Douglas Fir tree trunks.

ANNUAL ORNAMENT 2022 marks the beginning of a new Good Boy Farms tradition: the annual ornament. Each year, we will design a new ornament to commemorate the year. Your goal? To collect them all! And now for our newsletter subscribers, an exclusive sneak peek at this year’s ornament!
HOURS OF OPERATION Please note that we have changed our hours of operation for the 2022 season Monday-Tuesday: CLOSED Wednesday-Thursday: 12:00pm-5:00pm Friday-Saturday: 10:00am-5:00pm Sunday: 12:00pm-5:00pm
PHOTO SESSIONS Want to take your Christmas family photos at Good Boy Farms? We are accepting reservations for photo sessions now for sessions beginning October 1! Many local photographers are holding Christmas mini sessions at the farm (list available upon request), but we also invite families who want to bring their tripod and book a slot on their own. Photo sessions are only available at times when the farm is closed to the public — any date between October1 and November 24, any time on Mondays or Tuesdays, before 12pm on Wednesdays, Thursdays and Sundays, and before 10am on Fridays and Saturdays. Click below or email us at goodboyfarms.whidbey@gmail.com to reserve your spot!
FRANKINCENSE Meet the newest member of the Good Boy Farms family — our goodest boy, Frankie the farm dog. We will be working hard to train Frankie up to be a reliable Livestock Guardian Dog, which will become more and more necessary as we add new animals to the homestead in coming years. For now, he’s just a pup — though a very large one — who is learning the ropes.
EGGS FOR SALE Are you local to Oak Harbor looking to buy farm fresh eggs? We have farm fresh eggs available daily at our farm stand! Our “Good Boy Eggs” are pasture-raised, meaning that our chickens get to forage and run around our large orchard all day, eat a wide variety of foods, and get plenty of nutrients and exercise. As a result, we get beautiful bright orange yolks as opposed to the pale yellow you most often find in grocery stores. Farm fresh eggs still have the “bloom” on the outside which is a protective coating that protects the eggs from all outside bacteria or chemicals. When the bloom is not washed off the eggs, they can be left out at room temperature for weeks without going bad! That’s why you can feel safe buying and eating eggs from the farm stand that haven’t been refrigerated. Once the bloom has been washed off, the eggs need to be refrigerated and the eggs are more vulnerable to outside contaminants. We frequently switch out the eggs at the farm stand so you always get the freshest of the fresh! Come grab your fresh eggs from our farm stand every day at 2870 Torpedo Road, Oak Harbor.

September marked Good Boy Farms’ second birthday. Thank you for all of your support along the way. Your friends at Good Boy Farms, Dave, Janet, Chris, Nicole, Josh & Kristi
